Do Weight Loss Drugs Or Supplements Really Work? – Video with Marc David

The weight loss industry is booming, and the companies that make weight loss pills and supplements are bringing in hundreds of billions of dollars each year. Yet, somehow, the media tells us that America’s “obesity epidemic” continues to worsen. How can this be? If so many people are spending so much money on medications designed to help us lose weight, how can we collectively be getting heavier still? The answers have to do with our approach to weight loss, and our human tendency to look for a quick fix instead of putting in the time, effort, and creativity that are required for lasting, sustainable change. In this eye-opening new video from IPEtv, Marc David takes us behind the scenes and into the mind of the diet pill manufacturers. If you’re frustrated with advertisers’ promises that haven’t panned out, you’re not alone. Tune in now and learn what they’re really selling and why it hasn’t gotten us very far.

In the comments below, please let us know your thoughts. We love hearing from you and we read and respond to every comment!

Here is a transcript of this week’s video:

Greetings, friends. I’m Marc David, founder of the Institute for the Psychology of Eating. Here’s the question: do weight loss drugs or supplements work?

So why is this an important question? Well, we have a $500 billion a year worldwide global weight loss industry. You heard me right, half $1 trillion. And with the pretty much airtight fact that weight gain is on the rise globally, there are a lot of us looking to shed pounds and a lot of us who want to do it fast and do it easy.

So to that end, it makes sense that there’s all these over-the-counter supplements and pills, as well as prescription drugs that are promising weight loss. And, by the way, there’s always something new coming out. You’ve seen it. I want to bottom line this for you right away. If there was truly a drug or a supplement that worked for weight loss, it would catch on like wildfire. Everyone would know about it. And you and I would not be in this weight-loss conversation. The world would not be in a weight-loss conversation.

Popping pills to lose body fat does not work.

Get that into your head. It never has. And I’m going to suggest to you strongly that it never will. Weight gain and weight loss is beautifully complex. It’s this rich biological and emotional phenomenon. It’s a social phenomenon. It’s a worldwide phenomenon that can’t be reduced to one simple chemical pathway that can be remedied by a drug. It’s a bunch of nonsense.

Now, I’ve worked in product development and in public relations. I’ve worked in supplement and the drug industry. So I have a pretty good idea of what goes on behind the scenes. With all due respect, I’ve worked for some of the bad guys. I know what goes on. They are selling a promise. That’s what you’re going to hear behind the scenes. “We sell a promise, not a solution. That’s what makes you money.”

That’s the way we are being programmed around the whole weight loss thing. If the pills and the drugs and the supplements would have worked, they would have already. And the industry knows how to do paid research for hire and get the results they want. They know how to hire the right people to spin it so the product sounds good.

So, my friends, I urge you to let go of the quick fix false promises when it comes to weight. You have to see how your mind has been captured. Think about it. We live in a time where we glorify the lottery. So many people want more money. “I want to be wealthier. I want to have more power in that way.” So we buy lottery tickets. It’s the quick-fix false promise. Maybe one person wins it and the government takes half of it, anyway, for goodness sake.

But that’s no way to make money.

It’s not sustainable. It’s not real.

It doesn’t work for humanity. It doesn’t uplift us. If you want to make money, you’ve got to work. You’ve got to have good ideas. You have to have creativity. You have to have teamwork. There isn’t a quick fix way to do it. That’s not how the universe works.

We’re living in a time when we want our 15 minutes of fame. Everything’s got to be quick. But here’s the thing. It’s false. It’s not real. And they do it to hook you, to take your money. But when you take a deep breath and realize that this is a long play, it’s a long game, and it’s a good game, and our job is to find a sustainable and natural way to eat and live, that’s what’s going to get you there.

So when it comes to weight loss, let go of the quick fix method.

Try real food, high quality food, natural, organic, fresh. Get outside. Celebrate. Eat in a relaxed state. Move and exercise in ways that truly feel good to you. Stop the body hate.

And if you want to get somewhere, love your self into that destination as supposed to hate yourself to that destination. And if you want to get somewhere, apply wisdom. And don’t just try to gamble with a drug or a supplement, because it wastes your time, because you are so much better than that.

And when we find our self-dignity, when we begin to trust in who we are, trust in how life works, trust in how the body truly works, your metabolism starts to reach its rightful place.

And that, my friends, is the magic of the world.

Warmly,
Marc David
