My Life as an Eating Psychology Coach: Lynne Bowsher

What made you want to become an Eating Psychology Coach?

I had been searching for a program for some time related to nutrition and the body. The moment I discovered Eating Psychology I knew it was exactly what I had been looking for! As a long time yoga instructor, the Eating Psychology work helps to augment my knowledge of yogic philosophy and the mind body connection for my students/clients. I felt that this program would allow me to reach out to more people in my community struggling with food and body concerns. I wanted to help them to connect to themselves in a more meaningful way so that they can be happy where they are in their life now.

What do you love about being an Eating Psychology Coach?

I love that being an Eating Psychology Coach offers a fresh new perspective on how clients look at their own relationship with food and body, something that has been needed for some time. Through this technique of coaching, clients can begin to recognize and own that there is not a one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to food and body. As a coach I have the wonderful opportunity to guide and support my clients as we explore and dive into their own personal challenges with food and body. As a guide or mentor I am able to help my clients form a deeper connection to where their challenges originate from. I help them begin to make changes so that they can begin to step into their own power around food and body. In doing so, this allows them to reach a level of confidence and acceptance of their own uniqueness and to finally feel comfortable in their own body.

What does your practice look like?

While my practice is still in its early stages, I have run several 8-week group programs based on Marc David’s book, The Slow Down Diet. Each session proved to be of immense value to those who participated. I have been lucky to work with several of my yoga students. I have also received interest from others in my community. So far the majority of people I work with have been women. I have done several in-person coaching sessions and a few via skype and over the phone. I have written several magazine articles for my local community helping educate people about this cutting edge work. I contribute to a twice a month FAQ section in our local paper. I feel proud knowing that I can use so many different tools to empower my clients so that they can step into their true potential as human beings. I also find it fascinating that I can see so much of myself in my clients!

How did your education at the Institute prepare you to work successfully with clients?

My education at the Institute for the Psychology of Eating gave me the confidence to step into the role as coach, practitioner, and healer for my clients. Throughout the program, I received many tools and strategies to work with, depending on who I might be coaching at any given time. Through Mind Body Nutrition and Dynamic Eating Psychology, there are so many areas to explore and dive into with each client. I discovered that just like my yoga students, my coaching clients are all at different levels in their lives, and I need to reach them where they are now. It also reaffirmed that my own struggles with food and body have helped me to be a better coach to my clients. By accepting my own challenges and working through them, I can better relate to my clients.

What was your favorite aspect of the Training?

I loved the entire program! I did particularly love the videos. Marc shared so much of his expertise in each video. I also enjoyed the case studies and learning from how each and every client required a different approach to reach results. I must say that in the beginning I felt a little overwhelmed with it all, but soon recognized that the work was all interconnected in a magical way. I found the Facebook group of immense value in helping us to stay connected throughout the program and to reach out to one another. I continue to love the support that comes through the alumni Facebook group where we can continue to support one another, ask questions, and share resources we have found helpful. The live event was amazing. It was so much fun, yet deeply emotional. It felt very special to be with Marc and Emily, and I loved being able to connect with my peers at the event.

How has being an Eating Psychology Coach impacted your professional life/financial well-being?

Being an Eating Psychology Coach has allowed me to progress in my professional life. When I tell people that I am an Eating Psychology Coach, they become curious because they have not heard of this work before. I love being able to explain to them that this work fills the gap when it comes to our relationship with food and body, showing that there is so much more than just what we eat. It is much, much more about who we are as eaters and how that correlates to our relationship with food, and in all aspects of our life. Being an Eating Psychology Coach has impacted how I present myself professionally to the world and others around me on a daily basis. Financially, I trust that this will begin to support me more and more as I continue to take on new clients.

How has being an Eating Psychology Coach impacted you personally?

Being an Eating Psychology Coach has impacted my personal life by helping me understand that even though I thought I had a very good relationship with food and body, I have discovered that there is so much more to be aware of. I find myself questioning things a little more in my own life. I have now come to terms with my own challenges and am more accepting of myself where I am right now.

What do you see for yourself in your future as an Eating Psychology Coach – where is your work evolving towards?

In my future as an Eating Psychology Coach, I see myself continuing to reach out in a larger way to my local community, helping to educate and inspire as many people as I can. I truly hope I can reach more and more people, using today’s online technology to expand beyond my own community. My niche is women aged 45 to 60 who are struggling with weight or body image, and who are lacking energy and purpose in their lives. My mission is to help empower these women to consciously step into their true potential, achieving a balanced life of health, purpose and vitality.

Why Would You Recommend the Training to Others?

I would recommend this training to anyone wishing to deepen their understanding about the relationship people have with food and body. This work touches us on so many levels of our being. It challenges us at times to our core, but through that process begins to transform who we are. The Training is very thorough, guiding you step-by-step through the various challenges your clients coming to you may have. It offers so many tools and strategies to be able to coach your clients towards their highest goals.

Anything else you’d like to share?

I think that by becoming an Eating Psychology Coach, we are given one of the key understandings to the future of healing our clients. We can help people connect to themselves and help them understand that their own relationship with food and body is congruent with their relationship with their lives. By helping our clients transform their own relationship with food and body, they can step into their true potential and become who they are meant to be. I feel blessed to have this knowledge to assist my clients on their own personal journeys!
